Whitening Treatment
1. Apply lip protection cream and insert the FlexiBlue® Cheek Retractor with the tongue guard pointing down. Stretch the face protection cloth around the outside of the cheek retractor and fold down the top. Determine the existing tooth shade.
2. Place the protective eye goggles on the patient.
3. Polish teeth with the polishing sand provided. (Add water as necessary)
4. Insert cotton rolls on either side of the buccal frenum. Apply extra lip protection along the insides of the superior and inferior lip.
5. Dry the teeth and gums. Apply the BlueSeal™ Gingival Protection. Light cure in a circular motion.
6. Attach the mixing tip to the dual-barrel syringe of whitening gel and apply a 2-3 mm layer of BEYOND™ II Advanced Formula Whitening Gel to the dry surface of the teeth.
7. Set the treatment time on the control panel to eight minutes. Position the lamp head as before and press the Start/Stop button to begin the first eight minute cycle.
8. At the end of the eight-minute cycle, use suction to remove the whitening gel. DO NOT rinse with water. Repeat steps 8-10, two more times for a total of three, eight-minute treatment cycles.
9. After last cycle, suction off whitening gel, remove gingival protection and wipe teeth clean with cotton balls or gauze. Paint on fluoride gel and leave for one minute.
Post-Treatment
At the end of the treatment, suction off the fluoride and remove the face protection cloth, cheek retractor, cotton rolls, and protective eye goggles and ask the patient to rinse his or her mouth with warm water. Show the patient his or her new white tooth shade and give them a Post-Whitening Care Instruction Card and trial-sized tube of Pearl White™ Whitening Toothpaste Advanced Formula.
1. Floss and brush your teeth gently with a fluoride toothpaste (such as BEYOND Pearl White™ Toothpaste) making sure not to irritate the gums. Rinse your mouth with warm water.
2. Place a drop of whitening gel into the tooth compartments for your teeth that can be seen when you smile in both the top and bottom trays (usually 8-10 teeth per tray). Each syringe has three treatment doses. Use up to one dose to fill both trays.
3. Fit the trays over your top and bottom teeth snugly.
4. Remove excess gel with a cotton bud or a dry toothbrush. When inserting the trays, take care to avoid pushing the gel up over the edge of the tray.
5. Wear the trays for one hour. Do not wear the whitening trays overnight.
6. At the end of the hour, remove the trays. Rinse your mouth and brush excess gel off of your teeth. Rinse the trays with cold water. If necessary, use a toothbrush to remove any leftover gel. Place trays in the protective case and store in a cool, dry place.
Following completion of the initial treatment protocol, BEYOND recommends a single one hour treatment per month for maintenance of the whitening results.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE
Pregnant women or persons under the age of sixteen are not recommended to undergo the procedure. Terminate the whitening procedure if any patient reports severe tooth sensitivity and remove all whitening gel before treating with fluoride.
Within the twenty-four hours after the procedure, patients should avoid colored food and drinks. Use of tobacco products should be limited.

What is the treatment protocol when using the BEYOND Complete Kit with Tray Material?
The BEYOND Complete kit with Tray Whitening Material is a complete chair-side whitening treatment kit design for the standard 30-minute BEYOND chair-side procedure, plus follow-up tray whitening for additional whitening results and maintenance. The BEYOND gel formula is applied in three successive 10-minute cycles with light acceleration. This combination approach will successfully whiten even the most difficult age-related stains, fluorosis, and tetracycline (intrinsic) stains, and allows the patient to maintain results at home.
-
Can I buy tray whitening materials separately?
Yes. StayWhite Tray Whitening Kits contain the same 6% whitening gel included with the Beyond Complete kit, as well as the EVA .040 impression tray material, custom tray storage case, and travel case. See the StayWhite product details on the StayWhite product page. StayWhite refill kits are available in three flavors (Vanilla, Mint, and Orange), and the impression tray materials are also available separately.
-
Does the treatment cause sensitivity?
Post-treatment sensitivity is caused by a number of factors, including treatment time (time gel and/or paste is on the teeth and time of light acceleration applied), strength of the whitening material, heat generated by the whitening system, and existing tooth condition of the patient. The most common cause of chair-side whitening sensitivity is enamel dehydration during the whitening process, which may increase with the use of some whitening systems. With the BEYOND Complete kit, the total in-office treatment time is three 10-minute cycles. Impressions can be made and the custom tray can be given to the patient for follow-up maintenance, or to whiten further if necessary.
All BEYOND power whitening systems filter the light output to remove all UV exposure and to produce cool light output, thus reducing heat exposure to the teeth, and further limiting dehydration. As a result, dentists using BEYOND kits with a BEYOND power whitening system generally do not experience the sensitivity issues that plague other systems.
NOTE: Caution patients not to over-use whitening trays as repeated follow-up whitening at home is a common and avoidable cause of sensitivity. Most patients require little or no immediate use of the tray material following the chair-side procedure, but can instead use the custom trays and included take-home gel for once-monthly maintenance.
-
How does Power whitening work to reduce treatment time?
Power whitening is effective in decreasing the stability of the hydrogen peroxide contained in the whitening gel, forcing the release of oxygen molecules. All BEYOND power whitening gels are formulated in two parts: hydrogen peroxide gel, and light-activated catalyst gel. The two are mixed when dispensed through the static mixing tips included with the dual-barrel syringes. When the intense light from the whitening accelerator is applied to the gel on the surface of the teeth, the light-activated catalyst material in the gel formula is excited and the breakdown of the hydrogen peroxide is accelerated.
-
Do you recommend following up the chair-side treatment with tray whitening?
The Complete Kit is excellent for patients that want immediate results, but want the opportunity to whiten further at home, or maintain extremely white results. For some dentists, this kit configuration is preferable as the most comprehensive approach to a lasting smile transformation, rather than a once-yearly in-office treatment for patients that consume staining foods.
-
Can the kit be used without a whitening lamp?
Yes. The BEYOND whitening gel is formulated to break down more rapidly when exposed to light, and to remain stable while contained in the dual-barrel syringes. When mixed while being dispensed and applied to the teeth, the gel begins to break down and will whiten the teeth without the application of light exposure, but will do so more slowly. Whitening with gel alone should be extended to three 15-minute cycles, and may require more than one treatment for best results. For consistent, strong results in a single in-office visit, we recommend use of the gel combined with light acceleration.
-
Is the gingival barrier necessary when performing the treatment?
Yes, the gingival barrier must be used with the BEYOND whitening gel to protect tissues from contact with the whitening gel. The BEYOND BlueSeal™ Gingival Protection Gel is a light-cured resin-based product that is applied to dry gingiva prior to application of the whitening gel to the teeth. The BlueSeal material can be light-cured with the curing light included in the Polus™ system. Gingival barrier is not needed for use with the included 6% take-home whitening materials given to the patient after the in-office procedure.
-
Can dental hygienists perform a teeth bleaching/whitening procedure?
Yes. In the US and most European countries the removal of stains from the surface of human teeth, including bleaching treatments, falls within the scope of practice of a registered dental hygienist. The taking of dental impressions is also regulated by health authorities and must be carried out by a qualified dental professional. Regulations vary by state and country.
-
Is this kit compatible with other light systems?
Yes. The BEYOND whitening gel contains catalyst materials to work with any light system, or without light acceleration, though results may vary depending on the intensity for the light output. LED systems may require longer cycles, or additional cycles for best results. Each 3.5mL syringe contains enough material for 4 cycles in the event the gel is used with a weaker light source, or without light accelerations. Consult instructions prior to use.
