Effectively jump-starts the power-whitening process. Blast’s 35% H2O2 extra-strength whitening paste formula is simple: after patient preparation as detailed in the instruction manual, mix and apply paste, and introduce light acceleration source. Typical pre-treatment is one cycle of six to eight minutes. Follow with BEYOND II 35% H2O2 dual-barrel syringe whitening gel treatment. BEYOND Blast is especially effective as a pre-treatment for tetracycline and age-related stains.

    Each BEYOND Blast Kit includes:

1      Bottle of whitening liquid (2mL)

1      Jar of catalyst powder (0.7g)

    1      Application brush

    1      Plastic spatula for mixing

    1      Multilingual Instruction Manual

    Pre-Treatment

Perform a pre-treatment oral exam and consult with the patient on his or her desired whitening results to determine the best treatment plan for his or her individual situation.

    Whitening Treatment

    1. Apply lip protection cream and insert the BEYOND FlexiBlue Cheek Retractor with the tongue guard pointing down. Stretch the face protection cloth around the outside of the cheek retractor and fold down the top. Determine the existing tooth shade.

    2. Place the protective eye goggles on the patient.

    3. Insert cotton rolls on either side of the buccal frenum. Apply extra lip protection along the insides of the superior and inferior lip.

    4. Dry the teeth and gums. Apply BEYOND BlueSeal Gingival Protection. Light cure in a circular motion.

    5. Cut open the 35% H2O2 liquid container carefully. Protective gloves and eyewear should be worn in case of spill or leakage. Mix the catalyst powder and liquid H2O2 together using the included spatula into a wet paste. (Paste consistency should be such that it does not “drip” off of the application brush.) Apply a 2-3 mm layer to the teeth using the included brush. Set the BEYONDWhitening Accelerator for a six-minute cycle using the Set Time button on the control panel. Position the BEYOND Whitening Accelerator lamp head at a 90° angle to the patient’s teeth and press the Start/Stop button to begin the six-minute cycle.  Do not reseal paste container. Remaining paste cannot be reused and must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

    6. At the end of the six-minute cycle, suction off the whitening paste.

    7. If the patient requires additional whitening, proceed with the additional whitening treatment steps outlined in the instruction manuals included with all BEYOND Whitening Kits. At the end of the treatment, remove the face protection cloth, cheek retractor, cotton rolls, and protective eye goggles and ask the patient to rinse his or her mouth with warm water. Show the patient his or her new white tooth shade.

    Important Points to Note

Pregnant or lactating women or persons under the age of sixteen are not recommended to undergo the procedure.Terminate the whitening procedure if any patient reports severe tooth sensitivity and remove all whitening gel before treating with fluoride.

Within the twenty-four hours after the procedure, patients should avoid colored food and drinks. Use of tobacco products should be limited.

    Contraindications

BEYOND Blast is contraindicated for patients with known allergy or chemical sensitivity to peroxides or glycols.

Do not use BEYOND BlueSealGingival Protection on patients with known sensitivity to resins. If dermatitis, rash, or any other allergic reaction develops, flush area with water and refer patient to a physician.

    Special Notes

Advise the patient that it is safe to swallow their saliva during the treatment.

If the whitening paste comes into contact with the patient’s gums during the treatment, the pink tissue may turn white during the treatment. This will fade in a few hours following the treatment and is not cause for concern.

Depending on the patient’s diet, oral hygiene, and use of tobacco products, periodic touch-up treatments may be necessary to maintain his or her new, white smile.

    Precautions and Warnings

The BEYOND Blast Kit contains 35% hydrogen peroxide. Keep out of reach of children. If accidentally swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. If this product comes into contact with skin or eyes, rinse immediately with water and seek medical attention.

    7. Is this kit compatible with other light systems?

    1. How is the BEYOND Blast Kit used?

The BEYOND Blast is a pre-treatment manual-mix whitening paste of 35% hydrogen peroxide formulated to reduce the appearance of the most severe stains, including intrinsic stains. The Blast material is mixed and applied for 6 to 8 minutes to the surface of the teeth, with light acceleration to jump-start the whitening process. Unlike the BEYOND gel formula that is to be applied following the initial Blast paste treatment, the Blast material penetrates much more rapidly through the tooth surface. The BEYOND gel formula is then applied in three successive 8 to 10-minute cycles with light acceleration. This combination approach will successfully whiten even the most difficult age-related stains, fluorosis, and tetracycline (intrinsic) stains.

NOTE: Because the paste formula penetrates much more rapidly through the surface of the teeth, some patients may experience transient post-treatment sensitivity. The Blast treatment is not recommended and is unnecessary for normal whitening cases.

    2. Does the treatment cause sensitivity?

Post-treatment sensitivity is caused by a number of factors, including treatment time (time gel and/or paste is on the teeth and time of light acceleration applied), strength of the whitening material, heat generated by the whitening system, and existing tooth condition of the patient. The most common cause of chair-side whitening sensitivity is enamel dehydration during the whitening process, which may increase with the use of some whitening systems. When using the BLAST kit as a pre-treatment, the total treatment time is 6 to 8 minutes of light-accelerated whitening with the BLAST paste formula to jump-start the whitening on the most difficult cases, followed by three 8 to 10-minute cycles with the BEYOND gel. The total treatment time should be no more than 38 minutes of exposure to the whitening materials, limiting dehydration from the whitening material.

All BEYOND power whitening systems filter the light output to remove all UV exposure and to produce cool light output, thus reducing heat exposure to the teeth, and further limiting dehydration. As a result, dentists using a BEYOND kit with a BEYOND power whitening system generally do not experience the sensitivity issues that plague other systems.

NOTE: Because the paste formula penetrates much more rapidly through the surface of the teeth, some patients may experience transient post-treatment sensitivity. The Blast paste pre-treatment is not recommended and is unnecessary for normal whitening cases.

    3. Can the BLAST paste be used without a whitening lamp?

Yes. The BEYOND Blast is formulated to break down more rapidly when exposed to light, but will release oxygen and whiten without the assistance of a light source. Whitening with the Blast paste alone should be extended to an 8-minute application, and the treatment repeated to a maximum of two successive 8-minute applications. For consistent, strong results in a single 6-minute pre-whitening treatment application, we recommend use of the paste combined with light acceleration.

    4. Is the gingival barrier necessary when performing the treatment?

Yes, the gingival barrier must be used with the BEYOND Blast and BEYOND whitening gels to protect tissues from contact with the 35% hydrogen peroxide material. The BEYOND BlueSeal Gingival Protection Gel is a light-cured resin-based product that is applied to dry gingiva prior to application of the whitening material to the teeth. The BlueSeal material can be light-cured with any standard curing light.

    5. Can dental hygienists perform a teeth bleaching/whitening procedure?

Yes. In the US and most European countries the removal of stains from the surface of human teeth, including bleaching treatments, falls within the scope of practice of a registered dental hygienist. Regulations vary by state and country.

    6. Can dental hygienists perform a teeth bleaching/whitening procedure?

Yes. In the US and most European countries the removal of stains from the surface of human teeth, including bleaching treatments, falls within the scope of practice of a registered dental hygienist. Regulations vary by state and country.

    7. Is this kit compatible with other light systems?

Yes. The BEYOND BLAST formula contains catalyst materials to work with any light system, or without light acceleration, though results may vary depending on the intensity for the light output. LED systems may additional applications for best results (not to exceed two successive 8-minute applications). Consult instructions prior to use.
